Christ is risen! Truly, He is risen!

One priest I know said that upon coming to a new parish, numerous parishioners, with great excitement for a new priest and the many possibilities with him at the helm, began to refer to him as the saviour of the parish. This priest astutely said, “There is only one Saviour and His name is Jesus Christ.”

John the Baptist was doing God’s work in the wilderness, bringing people to God through baptism and ascesis but he rightly corrects those questioning who he is by bluntly saying “I am not the Christ.” What John the Baptist was doing was not in any way to bring attention to himself but rather to point to Christ, the one He wanted the people to come to know as the Christ and Saviour of their souls.

May our celebration of the Lord’s resurrection point others to Christ, the true light who comes into the world.
