Read Philippians 2:24-30

St. Paul speaks with great affection about Epaphroditus, calling him his “brother and co-worker and fellow soldier.” Epaphroditus had been seriously ill and had come close to death, yet he remained a faithful servant and companion in the work of Christ.

Then Paul says something important: “Welcome him in the Lord with all joy and honor such people.”

There is a lesson here about gratitude and recognition. Sometimes we become so accustomed to people serving our communities that we begin to take their work for granted. Someone is always helping, encouraging, organizing, cleaning, praying, or simply being there when others need support. Much of this work happens quietly and without recognition.

Yet Paul tells us: honor such people.

Not because they are looking for praise, but because faithful service deserves to be recognized. When we acknowledge the good that others do, we encourage them and remind the whole community that service matters.

So this week, look around your own community. Who are the people who work hard, serve others faithfully, and rarely receive recognition? Notice them. Thank them. Encourage them. Give them the recognition they deserve.

And then ask yourself: Am I also becoming someone who can be counted on to serve others for the sake of Christ?
