Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

As we continue to celebrate the great feast of Pentecost, and we learn more of what it means to be a Church with the mission of “going out” to the world, and witnessing to the truth of Jesus Christ, so that others may encounter our Lord, and become as we are—disciples of the Saviour.

We often sing the Beatitudes at the Third Antiphon of the Sunday Divine Liturgy. They are part of the great Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5-7). The Beatitudes are the blessings or joys of being disciples of Jesus Christ. These are the promises of Christ for those who follow Him and continue His mission in the world. The Beatitudes are the “be attitudes” — our way of living now, always seeking and living according to the grace that He provides, each of us and all of us.

During this week of Pentecost, and the weeks that follow, ask the Holy Spirit to enlighten your mind and heart, pick one of the Beatitudes, meditate on it, and then, again asking for His grace, try to live it.
